The Department for Planetary Education is an innovative and empowering educational platform and research project dedicated to cultivating new pedagogies for more-than-human futures by collaborating with living organisms. Bridging biodesign, critical theory, architecture, regenerative practices, multispecies-maintenance and ethics of care, the DfPE explores the entanglements between living and non-living systems through workshops, seminars, research papers, essays, exhibitions, and curriculum made up of interconnected lessons with living organisms at the core.

The DfPE is the brainchild of Paul JJ Treichl, an Austrian critical biodesigner, architect, and artist who works with living organisms.

He explores the intersection between the built and natural environments and the living organisms that comprise them. His research and work touch on speculative futures and multispecies design through the lenses of education, object-based science communication, and object-oriented ontology.
